Travis Perkins are a timber and builder’s merchant, with a fleet of over 3,000 vehicles across 2,000 operators’ license sites.  Every day they ship out thousands of product lines to trade professionals and self-builders across the nation including building materials, interior and garden supplies.

The Motor Transport Award that Travis Perkins has been shortlisted for is ‘The Best Use of Applied Technology to Solve a Problem or Improve a Service by a Road Transport Fleet Operator’.

So what exactly was the problem they had and what technology did they use to solve it?  We caught up with Jon Lowe, Transport Systems Manager for Travis Perkins PLC, and dug a little deeper…

What problem did Travis Perkins have before using Tranzaura?

Jon:  We had multiple software platforms, all supplying different types of data.  We found that when setting up some basic details, such as employee names, they had to be updated on all systems every time something changed.  This resulted in a lot of manual admin work across thousands of drivers. We were repeating the same manual task on all our vendor systems.

This sparked the idea for Project Phoenix.  I thought that the best solution would be to find a way to link all our various fleet systems (both in-house and third party) to help remove and automate basic admin tasks.

So how have Tranzaura helped with Project Phoenix?

Jon:  We’ve implemented the Daily Walk Around Check and Driver Connect modules from Tranzaura.  Not only have these modules helped increase driver safety and improved the compliance and efficiency of our vehicles within the group, but Tranzaura also built an integration API that allow the Phoenix to connect to the Tranzaura platform and update instantly when one change is made. So far, we’ve worked out that it’s saved us over 41,000 labour hours across all the vendor systems.  And I think we’re being modest with that figure!

Here at Tranzaura, we’re delighted to have had the chance to be part of this project and to supply the technology that has helped Travis Perkins deliver some astonishing results with regards to their productivity and profitability.  This award nomination acknowledges all the hard work that has been put in over the last number of years, and we wish Travis Perkins the best of luck with the award.  They find out the results at a ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on 2nd September 2021.

In the meantime, if we’ve sparked your curiosity and you want to find out more about the success Travis Perkins have had, then be sure to join us for our upcoming webinar…
